Gluten-Free Apple Pie French Toast Bake
I'm not a gluten free person by any means, I love bread, flour, everything including gluten to be honest, but udi's gluten free bread is actually delicious. I don't usually make sandwiches for lunch so i don't buy bread too often, but I've been wanting to make a french toast bake for a while and why not try out gluten free at the same time! udi's bread has the same texture and taste as any other bread I'd normally eat, so it's nice knowing there's gluten-free options out there that don't make you compromise on taste.
Makes: 9x9" pan Prep time: 2 1/2 hours Bake time: 45 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 granny smith apple
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 loaf udi's Soft White Bread
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup 1% milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Pinch of cloves
- Pinch of allspice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Step 1: Cube the apple into 1 centimeter cubes and toss in a bowl with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and lemon juice. Set aside.
Step 2: Cube bread into 3/4" cubes. Begin layering the bread and apple cubes into the pan, so they are evenly distributed.
Step 3: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves all spice. Pour over the bread, cover and place in the fridge for 2 hours.
Step 4: While the bake is chilling, make the crumb topping by using a fork to cut together the butter, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon, until a crumb forms.
Step 5: Sprinkle the crumb topping over the french toast bake and place in the oven for 45 minutes. Remove and serve warm with maple syrup.
