INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup white chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup chopped macadamia nuts
- 1 egg, for wash
- 1 tablespoons melted butter, for glaze
- 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed orange juice, for glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for glaze
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
Step 2: Add butter and cut in (if you don't have a pastry blender, you can use two butter knives).
Step 3: Add buttermilk and mix until just combined.
Step 4: On a board or counter top dusted with flour, roll our the dough into three balls. Flatten to 1 inch thick and slice like a pizza into 8 pieces.
Step 5: Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 8 minutes.
Step 6: Remove from oven and brush with egg wash. Place back in the oven for 8 more minutes until the tops are golden brown.
Step 7: While scones are cooling, in a small bowl whisk together powdered sugar, melted butter, orange juice and vanilla until smooth. Once scones are semi-cool, brush each scone with glaze and let dry. Serve immediately.
